Another piece of racist, bias, fake news article by SF Chronicle: How the NBA can effectively deal with China” 又另一篇種族主義假新聞文章: 美國職業籃球如何有效應對中國 by Scott Ostler Aug 3 2022

Hey Scott! Go Niners and Deebo!

It’s hard for people to change preconceived notions, but I hope you will be open to the following!

PONTIFICATION DEPT

You described your article accurately as being from the ‘Pontification Dept’. Whether you’re aware of it, or not, the Cambridge Dictionary describes pontificating as writing ‘your opinion about something as if you knew everything about it and as if only your opinion was correct’.

Importantly, your piece is fundamentally uninformed and extremely biased.

My guess is that you consider yourself liberal and woke. If so, your piece demonstrates the contrary. Your piece relies fundamentally on stereotypes about China and Chinese that is founded on historically deep-rooted American anti-Chinese sentiment.

I’m sure you would give the woke response that you love Chinese people; you just hate the authoritarian Communist Party that oppresses them! China is far from perfect, but it’s nowhere near being the dungeon of the Western imagination.

MISINFORMATION/DISINFORMATION
“Misinformation/disinformation” is a hot topic in present-day journalism (usually attributed to Trumpian forces, Russia, China). Yet most of our own journalists–whether consciously or unconsciously–are guilty of spreading misinformation/disinformation, as well.

Misinformation/disinformation’s basic quality is lack of facts, evidence and context. Its propagation is based on repetition of and the echo chamber of baseless ‘conventional wisdom’.

Unfortunately, I doubt that, other than ‘conventional wisdom’, you have any actual knowledge about China, Uighurs, Taiwan.

Regarding Xinjiang cotton, you refer to “suspicions”, “accusations”, “hard to prove”. Your article insinuates these suspicions and accusations into a Yellow Peril/Evil China narrative which is presented as truth to a sports crowd that’s even less informed than you: USA! USA! We’re Number One!

Your piece is objectively part of the “Manufacture of Consent” against China by our own government that wants to kneecap–by any means necessary– any potential peer competitor (Wolfowitz Doctrine, to which Biden’s Foreign Policy Team adheres).

The White “International Community” of US, Europe, Australia, Canada (plus junior partners Japan, South Korea) wants to maintain the policy of Full Spectrum Dominance/unipolar global hegemony over the Global South.

THE MASK OF ‘DEMOCRACY vs. AUTOCRACY’

“Democracy vs. Autocracy” is but code and cover for the reality of Unipolar Global Dominance vs. Multipolar Global South. The Global South wants equality. The Global South does not want the Master-Slave relationship that the “International Rules-based Order” represents!

This results regarding China in this recent Latana “Democracy Perception Index 2022” https://latana.com/democracy-perception-index/ will surprise you:

SELECTIVE MORALITY

You chastise Kerr and Pops for “selective morality”. Yet Americans partake egregiously in selective morality. Few American journalists have spoken out against the treatment of Assange, Whistleblowers John Kiriakou and Daniel Hale for having provided evidence–not mere suspicions or accusations–of American war crimes. How about pontificating on Assange and Daniel Hale?

Perhaps your lens of “de facto supporting and enabling the bad stuff that government does” could be applied self-reflectively!

AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM
Despiite your image as a woke liberal, your article is redolent with the racist White supremacist attitude of American Exceptionalism.

While we lecture and condemn others for human rights violations, we give ourselves a free pass for even greater misdeeds…….because whatever misdeeds that we inflict on others does not reflect “who we are”. We get the free pass because we consider ourselves to exist on a higher moral plane, thus justifying our own hypocrisy. MLK’s proclamation that “the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today — my own government” still holds true today.
