He spent his youth in Qinghai, and the magnificence and magic of the plateau evoked his childhood art dream. In 1976, he entered Nanjing “July 21” University of Arts and Crafts to study, and later served as a craft designer at the Nanjing Arts and Crafts Research Institute, and a member of the art gallery of the Cultural Center. In 1989, he resigned from public office. In the same year, he entered the oil painting class of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing for further studies. After graduation, he became a freelance painter.
Zhu Kun’s oil paintings mostly express the style of the plateau in the Western Regions. His works are profound and dynamic, focusing on the sacredness and solemnity of nature and the dependence of people on it, pursuing the effect of the unity of nature and man.
In 1989, 9 oil paintings including “Meditating in Autumn Rain”, “Sakura” and “Fisherman’s Dream” were selected into the “Jiangsu Modern Oil Painting Exhibition”, and all the works were collected by Japanese collectors.
From 1992 to 1998, dozens of oil paintings, such as “The Boat Song in the South” and “Ancient Dunhuang”, were selected for exhibition in Japan, Malaysia, the United States, Hong Kong and other places, and were widely praised.
In 1993, the special edition of Beijing “Oriental Pictorial” introduced Zhu Kun’s oil paintings;
In 1995, his work “Buddhism” was selected into the “Chinese Oil Painting Exhibition” and included in the collection of “Contemporary Chinese Oil Paintings”.
In 1997, “Zhu Kun Painting Collection” was published (Jiangxi Fine Arts Publishing House);
In 1998, the “Zhu Kun Oil Painting and Sculpture Exhibition” was successfully held in Hong Kong. “Ta Kung Pao” and several other newspapers have made special reports.

《秋雨幽思》
少年时代在青海度过,高原的壮美与神奇,唤起了他童年的美术梦。1976年进入南京“七·二一”工艺美术大学学习,后任南京工艺美术研究所工艺设计师,文化馆美术馆员。1989年辞去公职,同年入北京中央美术学院油画班进修,毕业后成为自由职业画家。
祝昆的油画多表现西域高原风情,作品深邃、灵动,注重表现大自然的神圣与凝重以及人对其的依赖,追求天人合一的效果。
1989年,《秋雨幽思》、《樱花》、《渔夫梦》等9幅油画入选《江苏现代油画展》,全部作品被日本收藏家收藏。
1992—1998年,油画《南方的船歌》、《远古的敦煌》等数十幅作品选送日本、马来西亚、美国、香港等地展出,受到广泛好评。
1993年北京《东方画报》专版介绍祝昆油画作品;
1995年作品《佛门》入选“中国油画大展”并收入《当代中国油画》集。
1997年出版《祝昆画集》(江西美术出版社);
1998年在香港举办“祝昆油画雕塑展”获得成功。《大公报》等数家报纸均做专门报道。
