There’s a good chance you’ve recently come across attack ads taking aim at state Rep. Sylvia Luke, who’s running for lieutenant governor.

The race is getting ugly, and it’s in large part thanks to Be Change Now, a super PAC funded by contractors who do business with the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters. The PAC is backing lieutenant governor candidate Ikaika Anderson and spending more than $2 million this year supporting his run.

If the name “Be Change Now” rings a bell, it’s probably because that same group helped propel Lt. Josh Green to his current position in the 2018 election.

So why pick on Luke? The ads are seen as political payback for a financial bailout package for the Honolulu Rail project that Luke helped shepherd through the Legislature.

Get the scoop on Be Change Now’s tactics and learn why Luke’s camp has called the ads misleading.
