Does the U.S. actually want to defend Taiwan? The answer is no

Some missed facts in the context-piss-poor article, which simply asks the wrong question / Does the U.S. actually want to defend Taiwan? War has gone from a remote scenario to a fearfully plausible one BY ARIS ROUSSINOS

The US is:
1) pouring money and arms into Taiwan
2) routinely doing maneuvers in the strait
3) sending trainers and soldiers
4) encouraging “independence”
5) doing high level official visits
6) shifting war doctrine and training for war with China
7) taking actions to provoke war

The US has no interest in defending Taiwan. It wants to use Taiwan.

Whether that involves a fierce, debilitating proxy war waged under the pretense of “defense”, a direct thermo-nuclear stand off, or simply unbridled chaos, depends on the flavor of the tactics of the day, the correlation of forces, the appetite for risk.
