This is why each time I back home from China, I feel like I’m coming back from a first world country to at least a second if not a third world country. My little San Francisco Chinatown, the “world famous” tourist attraction, seems so small, backward, frozen in time and insignificant by comparison. It comes from the China of the past, not the China of today.
