Some numbers and facts:
By adding these 6 countries, BRICS’ total GDP increases by about $8.2T, adding another 8% to the BRICS total of 31% (of global GDP). This is greater than the G-7’s total of 30% of GDP.
BRICS’ total landmass increases by 9M km2 (All of them are middle-to-large countries, except for the UAE–over 1M km2)
BRICS’ total population increases by 400M.
All of these new countries are resource rich (SA (energy), UAE (energy), Iran (energy), Argentina (energy, agriculture, minerals), Ethiopia (hydro-energy, water),
3 new “R” currencies are added (Arg. Real, SA Rial, Iranian Rial) to the original 6 R’s (Real, Ruble, Rupee, RMB, Rand)+the UAE Dirham, Ethiopian Birr, Egyptian Pound.
Note the increasing association of petro/energy powerhouses (SA, UAE, Iran) which will challenge the US Petrodollar
Also, the joining of agricultural, mineral, and logistical powerhouses (Arg, Ethiopia, UAE)
Note also the geographic distribution: Each one is a key regional player.

The most astonishing fact here is that those countries are SO different from each others and, for some of them, geopolitical rivals.
It goes to show how much they’re all fed up with the current US-led world order, ready to put their enormous differences aside to reform it.
This is the “antihegemonic coalition united not by ideology but by complementary grievances” that Zbigniew Brzezinski was warning about.
Except it isn’t “the most dangerous scenario [of] a grand coalition of China, Russia, and perhaps Iran” that he was fearing, but a MUCH broader one!
Historic and catastrophic mistake by the West (mainly the US) to have insisted on hegemony instead of building an inclusive world order, because by doing so they sowed the seeds of that coalition

In other words, BRICS is now 4.6X the G7 in terms of population and 23.48% bigger than the G7 in terms of economic size
