Visit of the Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China Delegation to the Chinese American Museum of Northern California 中國雲南省文山州代表團參觀北加州華裔博物館 By Brian Tom June 27 2024

Johnson: Last Thursday, I had a visit from a delegation from the Wenshan Prefecture in Marysville to study American farming techniques. This is the first Chinese delegation I’ve had at the museum.

This delegation consisted of about 15 members. They were very enthusiastic about seeing the museum’s exhibits. They enjoyed the exhibit on Contemporary Chinese Art and the new exhibit on China-US Relations—Past, Present, and Future.

The leader gave me a pu erh tea cake and told me it is a specialty of Yunnan Province. He also gave me a Miao ethnic handbag.

I had read about how China picks its leaders through merit, and this leader was undoubtedly very sharp, asking questions and generally being in charge. His title is Chairman of the Standing Committee, People’s Congress of Wehshan Prefecture. Wehshan has a population of 3.5 million.

A Yuba County supervisor set up the meeting and is exploring a sister city relationship with Wenshan.

The delegation seemed very happy to visit the museum. One visitor mentioned that the exhibits showed the true story of China.

See you at your birthday party on Saturday July 6th.
