Record grain harvests in China and India are reducing Asia’s dependency on imports, to levels far below those forecasted in prior years. But more of the BRICS nation supply chains for grains are shifting away from North America and Europe, and to Russia and Kazakhstan.

South America’s ag sector is also booming, also in grains and soybeans. But Brazil is exporting record volumes of beef to China, as North American ranchers’ share of China’s imports have fallen to four-year lows.

The shift’s in China’s agricultural imports are wreaking havoc across the US farm sector, which will register another record year of deficits in 2025. American and Canadian ranchers have the smallest cattle herds in over 70 years, yet global demand for North American beef is falling even faster.
