A good friend for 30 years in SF asked me about the China trip and how am I enjoying Hong Kong. He was from HK. This is my reply. 一位在舊金山生活我認識了30年的好友問我中國之行的感受,以及在香港的感受。他也是來自香港。以下是我的回覆:
HK and China is safe. At our age, safety is our #1 concern. HK is safe after passing the National Security Law. In US, we are afraid to leave home after dark! Our home has become our own prison. Going to public park after dark or early morning is out of the question unless you are prepared to get robbed, beaten up if you are Asian and worst death. Walking in the Tsingyi park in HK next to our home, safety never came to anyone’s mind and we take it for granted. I lives in US for 52 years, never have I seen so many giving up their US citizenship. Those that are giving up tends to be young, educated or rich, not the blue collar workers. Today I am having lunch with my client for 42 years. Her daughter born in US at age 26, a smart girl with a Ph.D in science and technology has successfully given up her US citizenship in March this year. The girl throw a big party to celebrate. It is unheard of 20 years ago. Her mom ask her to join us for lunch in April to meet Carmen. There is absolutely no future for smart Chinese in America. I don’t consider myself smart, even not so smart Johnson is trying very hard to leave US. The moment I stepped out the plane in HK. You can breathe freedom and safety not available in the United States.
