When in doubt, seek guidance from official university or government channels, or verify with reliable AI information sources such as DeepSeek or ChatGPT for general context.

For those currently employed in the United States, visiting China may invite additional scrutiny—especially if you have Chinese heritage or work in government-related sectors.

For example, one of my Filipino clients, a couple, faced issues recently. The husband, a private contractor, and the wife, who works for the U.S. military in a non-sensitive position, applied for permission to visit China. Despite submitting their detailed itinerary three months ago, their request remains under review, forcing them to consider canceling their November 1st trip.

These developments suggest that travel restrictions and scrutiny could continue to intensify in the coming months and years. The declining number of U.S. students studying in China may reflect growing concerns over these issues.

Some observers believe that American students who study in China often return with a more nuanced and informed view of the country—sometimes challenging certain media narratives. This, in turn, may contribute to increased government caution around such exchanges.
