For Asian Americans, particularly Chinese Americans, the coming months and years present a period of profound challenge and heightened anxiety.

Many of us who built lives in the United States have long navigated a persistent undercurrent of concerns: racism, discrimination, the professional “glass ceiling,” and societal ills like rampant drug addiction and gun violence. We’ve contended with property crime met with an under-resourced police response, and public safety eroded by a homelessness crisis deeply intertwined with addiction and mental health issues.

Today, the climate has intensified. Under the guise of stringent anti-immigration policies, law enforcement increasingly profiles individuals based on race. Non-white faces are routinely suspected of being “illegal,” leading to arrests and detention alongside hardened criminals—a “guilty until proven innocent” approach where due process can take days or months. Families are often left in agonizing silence, with authorities providing no information about their loved ones.

Making this worse is the mainstreaming of once-fringe extremism. Former members of groups like the KKK have now found a voice and platform within movements like MAGA. Under banners such as “America First,” a dangerous sentiment has been unleashed—an open season where non-whites are increasingly viewed as targets.

Within our own communities, some advise resignation: “You chose to live here, so just endure it. Don’t leave, and don’t complain.”

This stance of silent assimilation asks us to accept a deteriorating reality. It confuses resilience with passivity. The choice isn’t merely between suffering in silence or leaving; it is about the right to openly advocate for the safety, dignity, and equality we were promised.

對於亞裔美國人，尤其是華裔美國人來說，未來的數月乃至數年，將是一段充滿嚴峻挑戰與高度焦慮的時期。

我們許多在美國建立起生活的人，長期以來一直在一系列持續的隱憂中艱難前行：種族主義、歧視、職業「玻璃天花板」，以及如氾濫的毒品問題和槍支暴力等社會弊病。我們還需應對財產犯罪，而警方往往因資源不足而反應乏力；公共安全則因與成癮問題和精神健康危機深深交織的無家可歸者問題而不斷受到侵蝕。

如今，這種氛圍愈發激化。在嚴厲反移民政策的幌子下，執法部門越來越多地根據種族對個人進行側寫。非白人的面孔常被例行公事地懷疑為「非法移民」，導致其與重罪犯一同被逮捕和拘留——這是一種「有罪直到被證明無辜」的做法，正當法律程序可能需時數日甚至數月。家人往往陷入痛苦的沉默，當局不會提供關於其親人的任何信息。

更糟的是，昔日邊緣的極端主義思想正被主流化。像三K黨這類團體的前成員，如今已在「讓美國再次偉大」這類運動中找到了發聲管道和平台。在「美國優先」等口號下，一種危險的情緒已被釋放——這彷彿是一個針對非族裔的「開放狩獵季」，他們日益被視為目標。

在我們自己的社群內部，有些人建議逆來順受：「你選擇住在這裡，那就忍著吧。別離開，也別抱怨。」
