Nury Vittachi: A NOTORIOUS SINOPHOBE got more than 900,000 views for a video he uploaded on X this week

Nury Vittachi: A NOTORIOUS SINOPHOBE got more than 900,000 views for a video he uploaded on X this week—showing what he claimed was Chinese people “smoking and laughing loudly” on a Japanese train. They were “ignoring local laws and public decency,” wrote Koji Kawagu. Koji Kawagu.

(Laughing loudly is apparently considered illegal and/ or indecent in Japan.)

But it was odd. The men’s appearance—hair and clothing—was very Japanese. Then someone amplified the video’s soundtrack, showing they were speaking fluent Japanese with local Japanese accents. There was no way they could be tourists from China.

SCAM ATTACK

This type of scam attack on Chinese people has been going on for decades. But people following this particular incident made an interesting deduction.

The Sinophobe, who uses the name Koji Kawagu, clearly did not realize the men were Japanese, from their clothing OR speech. This implied that he himself was not Japanese, despite posting from that country.

Some observers concluded that he’s most likely the equivalent of “Kong Tsung-gan” of the Hong Kong Free Press – a white guy in “yellowface” paid by western agencies to deceive people and cultivate hate against the Chinese.

MILITARY INTELLIGENCE

A review of the posts of “Koji” over the past two years shows repeated references to military affairs.

US military intelligence has admitted in the past that it has conducted anti-China campaigns using fake-name accounts on social media for decades.

Reuters revealed that staff operating one such US military campaign in Asia admitting to pushing disinformation about Chinese vaccines, leading to a sharp drop in usage and almost certainly causing the deaths of an unknown number of people. The dead were Asians and the scammers were Americans, so no one was punished.
