James: I agreed with you. US is expert in labeling. Using academic terms to frame you as socialist, capitalist, communists etc, but in the real world there is no pure form textbook political system.

What drive China success is strong centralized government with decentralized free enterprise systems by encouraging 1000s of mayors throughout the nation to make it work through a sticks and carrots system like how a company promotes managers.

Central government will intervene when needed such as AI, Chips, Space (used to be only by Beijing, now China private businesses are following Elon Musk footsteps) and etc.

China lack of a brainwashed religious based western democracy therefore cannot playing with switching authoritarian governments between democrats and republicans must deliver tangible to its people making Beijing very practical and getting things done. And we could go on….

The bottom line is China political system allows flexibility not available to US when the 1% elites control our government on their get rich quick schemes at the expense of the Americans and by robbing the rest of the world.

It is like Elon Musk mother who married an AngloSaxon white South African where wife abuse was legal. His mom divorced the husband once South Africa passed the law saying wife abuse became illegal. Before China’s rise, most of the world suffers under US hegemony. Since China’s rise, the world see options not to get raped by US hegemony everyday. There are dozens of Elon Musk’s mother cases nations now say to US: rape me no more. China provides these nations with the 底氣 to say no! These countries and its people could now lives like humans again. Thanks to China. The American rapist, the US government of course mad like hell. It is just too bad.

The prowess of the young Chinese engineers is impressive and they made their model essentially open source (versus OpenAi’s black box approach) which goes to show their self confidence. Much less focus on making billions. Instead all are encouraged to use the model to come up with improvements for the good of everybody.

KJ: The history of math is essentially the history of a few simple things:

a) Finding effective ways of conceptualizing and calculating problems (axioms, proofs, algorithms, methods, models) &

b) Making those algorithms more efficient (e.g. logarithms, fourier transforms, etc.)

c) dealing with/resolving contradictions that arise as you do a) & b) (pure math, analysis)

Recently math has incorporated computation (automated algorithms) to assist a).

Computer science, including AI, is just applied math.

Recent approaches to AI have been largely massive brute force approaches: invest enough money and computational time for the (neural network) algorithm to “learn” (“machine learn”) from large datasets and wait for impressive results.

LLM’s (large language models) such as Open AI are just that. They have relied on advanced GPU’s and massive datasets enabled by the world wide web.

Deepseek is impressive because it does b), in particular, use skilled math to improve computation and to overcome hardware limitations. This work is part of mathematical development.

Capitalists tell you that Enclosure of IP is the flywheel of innovation: potential windfall profits are the incentive for groundbreaking research and innovation.

This puts the lie to that, too.
Most profound advances in science come from sharing to the intellectual commons, rather than enclosing it.(e,g, TCP-IP).

Algorithms allow mechanized calculation of a problem (follow a set of determined steps and you are guaranteed* a correct result). This is cogitation as computation.

LLM’s and Neural networks allow pattern recognition (recognizing patterns from large datasets), which allows a kind of analogical thinking/generalization. This simulates some aspect of metaphorical thinking.

While both are impressive, they do not cover the totality of human thinking and knowing. Knowing is a subset of being–of being human. Human knowing is inseparable from human caring, and machines cannot and do not care. Purposive or goal-driven behavior in cybernetic models creates machines that “care” about single goals, but there is no generalized goal or generalized notion of “care”.

*This is if the calculation terminates. It’s not guaranteed that an algorithm will halt.

BREAKING NEWS: New US President Donald Trump halted all US foreign aid cash going to Taiwan and Ukraine “with immediate effect”, Politico reported last night.

All overseas payments worldwide except for those to Israel and Egypt will stop for a 90-day review, the news website reported, after speaking to one current State Department official, plus two former Biden administration officials.

The order, sent to consuls worldwide yesterday by new Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “appears to stop aid to key allies such as Ukraine, Jordan and Taiwan” the news outlet said, adding that the document “shocked State Department officials”.

In Taiwan’s case, the move will make East Asia safer, rather than less safe, analysts believe.

FREEZE FROM BOTH SIDES
The move coincidentally took place at the same time that Taiwan’s democratically elected parliamentarians voted for a partial freeze on spending on US weapons from their side.

The western mainstream media have been predicting that mainland China is on the verge of “invading” Taiwan for 40 years, but citizens have grown skeptical.

The US sends heavy financial and military support to Taiwan, Ukraine and Jordan so they can be used as tools against neighboring nations considered competitors or adversaries.

ORDER TO DIPLOMATS
Rubio yesterday ordered the instruction to be sent to all US diplomatic and consular posts worldwide. It requires staff to send out “stop-work orders” on “existing foreign assistance awards” with immediate effect, according to the document seen by Politico.

This order goes further than the Executive Order signed by President Trump on Monday, which was assumed to not apply to funds which had already been appropriated, or to military aid to Ukraine. This step indicates a far more dramatic and sweeping cut which applies immediately.

For decades, analysts have said that cutting military US aid to Taiwan will make East Asia safer. In 1982, the US itself acknowledged this and promised to completely phase out weapons sales to Taiwan. But the pledge was never followed through.
