https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8yDhwyW/Political analyst, educator and journalist, KJ Noh joins Ileana Chan and Sara Vivacqua for this week’s Empire Watch Weekly LIVE.
KJ unpacks the conviction of Hong Kong media mogul Jimmy Lai, which Western outlets frame as an attack on “press freedom.” He explains how Lai functioned as the Rupert Murdoch of Hong Kong’s US‑backed color revolution, using his tabloid empire to destabilize China while lobbying Washington for sanctions and intervention. KJ situates the case within Hong Kong’s colonial history, showing how the city was never democratic but long served as a staging ground for imperial operations. He reveals how the extradition law controversy was weaponized into a violent regime‑change campaign, with Lai at its center, and how his trial exposes the propaganda machine behind the democracy myth.
KJ Noh is a political analyst, educator and journalist focusing on the geopolitics and political economy of the Asia-Pacific. He is also an organizer and contributor to Pivot to Peace. His latest book is “KILLING DEMOCRACY: Western Imperialism’s Legacy of Regime Change and Media Manipulation”

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8ySxcjs/
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8yS3KQV/In fact, behind this lies a battle for discourse power in the global industrial chain and complex great-power competition.
Everyone knows that Singapore is roughly the size of an ordinary county or city in China, so how did such a small country become one of the world’s wealthiest regions? The fundamental reason lies in its unique geographical location—it commands the most crucial position along the Strait of Malacca. Whether it’s cargo ships from East Asia bound for Europe or from the Middle East heading to the United States, a simple stopover in Singapore for basic processing and transshipment can generate massive profits. What Hainan is doing now is even more forward-looking than Singapore.
To briefly explain how Hainan’s customs closure operates—it’s not about closing the country off from the world but treating Hainan as a unique trade zone. The policy can be summarized in 12 words: “Open at the first line, controlled at the second line, and free within the island.” What does “open at the first line” mean? Goods entering Hainan from abroad enjoy a 0% tariff benefit. The published data shows a tax exemption rate as high as 74%, covering over 6,600 product categories, which includes almost the vast majority of goods worldwide. What will happen once this policy is implemented? Hainan will undoubtedly become a global hub for goods, attracting a massive concentration of cargo ships.
I know some might say this would significantly impact the domestic market. For example, if clothing from Southeast Asia, vitamin tablets from the U.S., and milk powder from New Zealand all enter the domestic market with 0% tariffs, wouldn’t local brands lose their price advantage? Don’t worry—the state has already considered this, which is why, following “open at the first line,” there’s an added restriction: “controlled at the second line.” What does “controlled at the second line” mean? It means that foreign goods entering Hainan are exempt from tariffs and can circulate freely within the island, but if they enter mainland China from Hainan, tariffs will be imposed. If you want to avoid these tariffs, there’s one condition: the goods must undergo processing that adds at least 30% in value before they can enter mainland China with 0% tariffs from Hainan. This implies that, in the future, goods from other countries wanting to enter the Chinese mainland with 0% tariffs must first be shipped to Hainan for transit and undergo deep processing to maximize profits. For example, French luxury goods, to save on tariff costs, will have to stop in Hainan for processing before being shipped to the mainland market.
👉 The state’s real intention is to use the benefit of tariff exemptions to attract global goods to Hainan, then establish comprehensive processing industrial chains. This approach forces Chinese enterprises to improve their technological capabilities. For instance, if German engines are shipped over, achieving over 30% processing-added value requires a certain level of technical expertise, which will accelerate domestic industrial upgrading. After all, many domestic factories are engaged in low-value-added assembly work—simply piecing components together and slapping on a brand label. This model is exhausting and unprofitable. So, the state’s idea is to use Hainan as a pilot project, setting the 30% processing-added value as a threshold to encourage domestic enterprises to enhance their technical capabilities, thereby reshaping the global high-end industrial chain. Once this is achieved, whether it’s Dutch chips, German engines, or American pharmaceuticals, shipping them to Hainan will significantly reduce costs.
👉 With such policy benefits, global high-end goods will be attracted to the Chinese market, and deep processing will take place domestically, keeping the industrial chains in China. This will allow us to set the market rules in the future. Moreover, it’s not just about gathering goods and industrial chains in Hainan. When the time is ripe, could we also use RMB for settlements? Hainan will then become a hub for four key elements: people, goods, industrial chains, and capital, serving as a critical breakthrough for the internationalization of the RMB. Look at what has happened since Hainan announced its customs closure decision in July. According to data, as of December 2025, Hainan has opened 85 international air routes, 90% of foreigners can visit Hainan without a pre-arranged visa, and the cargo route from Haikou to Milan, Italy, has become a global hotspot, with a flood of European goods entering the Chinese market via Hainan.
I know some might ask: What does this mean for ordinary people? If you’re an average worker, purchasing foreign goods in Hainan could reduce costs by 30%-50%—a tangible saving. According to the regulations, Hainan residents can enjoy a “tax-exempt list for daily consumer goods,” with an annual quota of at least 30,000 RMB. This means that, locally in Hainan, daily necessities are almost entirely tax-free. Isn’t that a benefit? If you’re an entrepreneur, you can set up factories in Hainan with various tax exemption policies. For instance, corporate income tax is reduced—while it’s 25% in many mainland areas, in Hainan, it’s only 15%, a 10% tax differential. Then there’s the 30% processing-added value benefit. For example, if you import beef from Argentina and process it into beef jerky in Hainan, you can sell it tariff-free to the mainland. In short, setting up a processing plant in Hainan becomes a significant choice for saving tax costs.
More importantly, there’s the time cost. While customs clearance elsewhere might take 72 hours, in Hainan, it’s now a one-hour express clearance with all lights green, saving a lot on storage and preservation fees and further boosting profits. Moreover, Hainan’s customs closure benefits not just trade but also brings visible business opportunities to locals and those planning to develop in Hainan. Think about it: when large numbers of foreigners flock to Hainan, providing translation services or opening themed restaurants and boutique hotels could be profitable. Where there are people, wealth will inevitably circulate. This customs closure initiative might transform Hainan from a laid-back tourist island into an international trade frontier teeming with opportunities. Just look at the news: the 7th International Film Festival in Hainan successfully attracted 4,564 films from 119 countries, with numerous Hollywood stars making appearances. Hainan also signed 13 cooperation agreements with the Bangkok International Film Festival in Thailand, continuously boosting its international influence.
👉 What does this show? It shows that Hainan is attracting not just foreign goods but also global industrial chains, capital, large numbers of international migrants, and cultural exchange activities—all entering the Chinese market through the Hainan window. If you missed Shenzhen 30 years ago, this Hainan opportunity might be the next big chance in your life. Those sensitive to business and wealth circulation will see this trend clearly.

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8yBxFMP/The world’s richest brands are struggling in China, as domestic firms are more innovative, faster to market with new products, and aggressively cut prices to grow market share.
Global giants such as Volkswagen, Starbucks, IKEA, and LVMH no longer enjoy pricing power in the Chinese market, and are scrambling to keep up.
But they cannot afford to leave. China is now a hub of innovation that these companies are learning from, instead of the other way around. China is also the world’s largest consumer market, with the world’s deepest supply chains and talent pools.
To small and medium-sized companies outside China, this is a unique opportunity. You can partner with the same Chinese companies, in hundreds of industries, who are eager to expand across the world.

American logistic expert report from China video: How bad is the Pentagon drone program? Even Donald Trump Jr’s investments are crashing
https://rumble.com/v73axx0-how-bad-is-the-pentagon-drone-program-even-donald-trump-jrs-investments-are.html
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8yBRtou/The Pentagon is desperate to catch up to China and Russia, and has announced ambitious plans to “unleash US drone dominance.”
But the Trump Administration’s Executive Orders to advance drone manufacturing in the United States ironically repealed previous restrictions on Chinese components in US military drones.
The removal of those restrictions were a boon to drone companies that source parts from China. That includes Unusual Machines, a company with Donald Trump, Jr. as a key investor and board member.
The President’s son has other investments in drone companies, who have also been awarded large Pentagon contracts. Anduril now carries a private valuation of over $30 billion.
But the performance of the drones themselves is poor, in testing with the US military, and under battlefield conditions in Ukraine. The US Navy and Air Force accuse the companies of “misguiding” them, and operators in Ukraine refuse to deploy US drones at all, even though they’re free.

Can the U.S. Reform Its Legalized “Pay-to-Play” System?
Can the U.S. Reform Its Legalized “Pay-to-Play” System? Otherwise the Make America Great Again will be a slogan without any practical meaning. US decline will accelerate and irreversible! By Johnson Choi, Dec 21 2025
The United States often criticizes corruption abroad, yet operates under a system in which many forms of influence-peddling are not only tolerated but legally codified. Lobbying, Super PACs, and campaign finance loopholes have institutionalized a form of “pay-to-play” governance that permeates every level of American politics. This raises a critical question: Can the U.S. truly reform itself, much like Hong Kong did when it established its Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in 1974?
Hong Kong in the mid-20th century was paralyzed by systemic corruption—from the police to the fire department. The city’s survival as a financial hub depended on radical, sweeping change. Despite the risks of creating powerful enemies, Hong Kong established the ICAC, an independent body with real authority to investigate, prosecute, and prevent corruption. The result was transformative: today, Hong Kong ranks among the cleanest places in the world to do business.
In contrast, the U.S. has legalized many practices that would be considered corrupt elsewhere. When influence is openly bought and sold under the protection of law, public trust erodes and governance falters. How can “Make America Great Again”—or any sincere call for national renewal—be anything but empty rhetoric if the system remains fundamentally transactional?
The challenge is profound, but not insurmountable. Real change would require:
· Comprehensive campaign finance reform
· Strict limitations on lobbying and revolving-door appointments
· An empowered, independent anti-corruption agency with prosecutorial authority
· Transparency in political spending and governmental decision-makingWithout such systemic overhaul, the U.S. risks maintaining a facade of democracy while allowing legalized corruption to dictate policy, distort justice, and undermine its global standing. The rest, as they say, is history—but America still has a choice in what that history will be.

Nury Vittachi: A NOTORIOUS SINOPHOBE got more than 900,000 views for a video he uploaded on X this week—showing what he claimed was Chinese people “smoking and laughing loudly” on a Japanese train. They were “ignoring local laws and public decency,” wrote Koji Kawagu. Koji Kawagu.
(Laughing loudly is apparently considered illegal and/ or indecent in Japan.)
But it was odd. The men’s appearance—hair and clothing—was very Japanese. Then someone amplified the video’s soundtrack, showing they were speaking fluent Japanese with local Japanese accents. There was no way they could be tourists from China.
SCAM ATTACK
This type of scam attack on Chinese people has been going on for decades. But people following this particular incident made an interesting deduction.
The Sinophobe, who uses the name Koji Kawagu, clearly did not realize the men were Japanese, from their clothing OR speech. This implied that he himself was not Japanese, despite posting from that country.
Some observers concluded that he’s most likely the equivalent of “Kong Tsung-gan” of the Hong Kong Free Press – a white guy in “yellowface” paid by western agencies to deceive people and cultivate hate against the Chinese.
MILITARY INTELLIGENCE
A review of the posts of “Koji” over the past two years shows repeated references to military affairs.
US military intelligence has admitted in the past that it has conducted anti-China campaigns using fake-name accounts on social media for decades.
Reuters revealed that staff operating one such US military campaign in Asia admitting to pushing disinformation about Chinese vaccines, leading to a sharp drop in usage and almost certainly causing the deaths of an unknown number of people. The dead were Asians and the scammers were Americans, so no one was punished.
