War planners in the US and Europe have admitted surprise that the conflict in the Ukraine has lasted for more than a few weeks. And decades of neglecting basic weapons manufacturing in favor of high-cost, high tech weapons have left our arsenals empty.

This is evident across many weapons platforms, but especially so for 155-mm shells, the most common artillery shell in the world today. Russia, assisted by North Korea and Iran, are producing and firing weeks’ worth of Western production every day in Ukraine, and NATO countries are scrambling to catch up. The United States also is struggling to resupply Israeli forces, and to restock our own inventories, but sufficient domestic production is still at least two years away and will need to be subsidized for years after.

In previous deployments of US precision munitions in Ukraine, Russian countermeasures were quickly adapted to render them useless.

USD will flood back to the USA as global demand falls. This will post much higher inflation and much loss of value. Interest rates in US may have to go as high as 10%. This brings inflation, recession worse than the Great Depression.

The picture is not good. By 2030, the US Congressional budget Committee forecasts that 100% of US government tax revenue will go to pay for interest expense. Anything else like defence, social security have to be borrowed. 6 years to go.

US actually have shortfalls & debts in Medicaid, Medicare and federal government pension unfounded, plus the national debt of 35 trillion. Total is 200 trillion. All WHILE THE US just sign a deal to finance Ukraine for 10 years. Where is the money coming from? Printing, more debts.

The stealing of Russian 300 billion is “too stupid to be stupid”. `Dumber than Dumb itself”. Jared Bernstein, White House Economic Advisor advocates getting rid of the reserve currency status. May be they are doing it.

After the European Union imposed high tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China, the shares of BYD ripped higher. Also moving higher were shares of Geely and Nio. BYD, Geely, and Nio are Chinese car brands that were specifically targeted by the EU tariffs, along with SAIC, a mostly state-owned enterprise.

European automakers with manufacturing operations in China opposed these tariffs from the very beginning. This is because structure of the tariffs means that it will be, ironically, European automakers with Chinese factories that will suffer the most. The manufacturing costs of these joint venture (JV) companies are much lower than in comparable European factories, yet are still substantially higher than for Chinese brands that are not JV’s.

BYD will enjoy strong pricing power even after the tariffs for their Chinese all-electric cars, and for their plug-in hybrid models and vehicles built in East European factories, they won’t face tariffs at all. Geely and Nio are also better off than their European competitors in the EV space, but their higher tariffs rates will squeeze profit margins.
