Remarks by Ambassador Qin Gang At the Reception Marking the 95th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Liberation Army of China
Remarks by Ambassador Qin Gang At the Reception Marking the 95th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Liberation Army of China
Your Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Friends,
Good evening! First, let me welcome you all to the Chinese Embassy and to celebrate with us the 95th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China.
The past 95 years has been an extraordinary and glorious journey for the PLA. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the PLA has made remarkable contribution to liberation, independence and national rejuvenation of China. Now China is firmly committed to the path of peaceful development and takes a defense policy that is defensive in nature. Chinese military has always been a champion and contributor to world peace. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, China has never initiated any war or conflict, and never occupied a single inch of other country’s territory. China is the second biggest financial contributor of UN peacekeeping budget and the largest troop contributor among Permanent Members of the UN Security Council. China has altogether dispatched almost 50,000 troops to 25 peacekeeping operations, and sent over 120 vessels in escort missions for more than 7,000 Chinese and foreign ships. 16 Chinese peacekeepers have laid down their lives while on duty in other countries.
Friends,
The world is facing drastic changes and a pandemic both unseen in a century. Turbulences and crises come up one after another. Traditional and non-traditional security challenges keep emerging. Deficits in peace, security, trust and governance are on the rise. All pose unprecedented challenges to human society. Against this backdrop, President Xi Jinping has put forward the Global Security Initiative, calling on countries to abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, address the complex and intertwined security challenges with the win-win mindset, adapt to the changing international landscape in the spirit of cooperation, and create a new path to security that features dialogue over confrontation, partnership over alliance and win-win over zero-sum.
Friends,
This year marks the 50th anniversary of President Richard Nixon’s visit to China. 50 years ago, the elder generation of Chinese and American leaders showed extraordinary wisdom and vision, and opened the gate of engagement for our two countries, ushering in 50 years of shared peace and prosperity.
Fifty years later today, the China-US relationship is at a new crossroads. Some people say that China and the US cannot avoid the “Thucydides’ trap” and the “tragedy of major-power politics”. Some assert that we will enter into a new Cold War. With the lessons of major-country conflict and confrontation still fresh in our memory, we should say a categorical “no” to these assertions, and jointly explore a way of peaceful coexistence of two major countries with different social systems, development paths, history and cultures on this planet.
President Xi Jinping and President Joe Biden have agreed that China and the US should respect each other, coexist peacefully, strengthen communication, constructively manage differences, prevent conflict, enhance cooperation, and take China-US relations back the track of healthy development.
The Taiwan question has always been the most important and sensitive core issue in China-US relations. The Chinese government values peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and has been making utmost efforts for peaceful reunification. However, the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces and their activities pose the biggest threat to cross-Strait peace and stability. If anyone tries to separate Taiwan from China, if anyone wants to challenge China’s bottom line, Chinese military will take forceful measures to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Maintaining the stability of military-to-military relations is essential to China-US relations. Since April, our militaries have had three high-level exchanges in the form of phone calls and in-person meetings, laying a good foundation for our next-step interactions. It’s hoped that the two sides will make joint efforts to strengthen communication, build military mutual trust, manage risks and crises, and advance cooperation in areas of shared interests, such as counter-terrorism, peacekeeping, military medicine, and military environmental protection, so as to contribute to the stable development of our bilateral, including mil-to-mil, relations.
Friends,
I wish to use today’s occasion to bid farewell to our Defense Attache Major General Zhang Li, who will leave his post soon, and also welcome Major General Liu Zhan, his successor. General Zhang is a seasoned military diplomat. He has been posted to the US, the UK and Thailand for almost 20 years, with 12 years in the United States. He has played an important role in the military engagement between our two countries during his tenure here. General Zhang, your contribution will not be forgotten. I would hate to say goodbye to you, just as all our colleagues, but I also congratulate you on your successful tenure in the past four years and a half, and I wish you well in the future. General Liu Zhan is also an experienced and capable military diplomat. He was posted to the US twice before, and served as Chinese Defense Attache to Iraq and Brazil. I believe that General Liu, as General Zhang did, will establish sound working relations and communication channels with our American colleagues and all of you present, and contribute to the stable development of China-US mil-to-mil relations.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends,
Let me propose a toast,
To the 95th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Liberation Army,
To the healthy and stable development of China-US relations,
To the friendly exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and US militaries,
And to your health,
Cheers!

https://www.facebook.com/100036400039778/posts/757162828840378/?d=nTake a look at Qing (Manchu), and Yuan (Mongol) dynasties that once became rulers of China who identified themselves as Chinese not Mongol or Manchu, they adopted Chinese Civilization, Language and Culture.
A civilization-based state like China (the only one that has lasted 5,000 years and still going strong), and unlike the Roman Empire, does not use brut forces to conquer and rule. China may have ups and downs but it will never vanish like the Roman Empire. Unlike AngloSaxon nations such as the United States which proclaims “in God We Trust” when its elites are really just using God to brainwash people to rule.
Civilization is something you adopt, grow up with, translates your daily life through foods, rituals such as Chinese New Year, Moon Festival, remembering your Chinese roots, not to shame your family name and so on, with no preaching or brainwashing needed. It is observed by all 56 races in China united as one nation under one civilization.
For the same reasons, 50 millions overseas Chinese holding foreign passports from more than 100 countries identify themselves as Chinese held together by Chinese civilization and not by their passports.
That is why throughout modern Chinese history, when China needs help, overseas Chinese always responded readily, no exceptions.
There is no nation, ethnic group or races could imitate or copy the Chinese.
That is why Henry Kissinger said don’t make China the US enemy, the US will not win.
That is also why Napoleon said when China wakes up she will shake the world.
Throughout 5,000 years of Chinese history, unlike the AngloSaxons, Chinese don’t go out to take colonies, no slaves, no robbing of poor nations, no stealing of weaker nations natural resources, no gunboats policy, won’t interfere with the internal affairs of any nations, etc. That is just part of the Chinese civilization and culture.
When US accuses China with all the fake news and propaganda it is merely looking at herself in the mirror. For all the horrific things Americans have done it assumes that China would do the same. How wrong and foolish could that be!?

Limitless wars as well as domestic gun violence good business for US military industrial complex / NYT: Assault Weapons Makers Pulled In Over $1 Billion as Violence Surged, Report Says 無休止的戰爭和家庭槍支暴力對美國軍事工業綜合體是好事財源滾滾來/紐約時報:帶來十億美元收入
A House panel found that the companies have thrived in the past decade by selling and marketing military-grade weapons to civilians, specifically young men. By Annie Karni July 27, 2022
WASHINGTON — The leading manufacturers of assault rifles used to perpetrate the deadliest mass shootings in the United States have collected more than $1 billion in revenue over the past decade as gun violence across the country has surged, according to a House investigation set to be presented on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
The findings, released before a congressional hearing on Wednesday on the marketing of assault rifles, indicate that the gun industry has thrived by selling and marketing military-grade weapons to civilians, specifically targeting and playing to the insecurities of young men, while some have made thinly veiled references to white supremacist groups.
The House Committee on Oversight and Reform opened an investigation into the gun manufacturing industry in May after the gun massacre in Uvalde, Texas, that killed 19 elementary school students and two teachers and a racially motivated mass shooting in a Buffalo supermarket that killed 10 people.
The panel requested that the country’s top five gun manufacturers share information on their sales and marketing strategies, as well as any efforts they make to track safety data related to their products.
“The business practices of these gun manufacturers are deeply disturbing, exploitative and reckless,” Representative Carolyn B. Maloney, Democrat of New York and the chairwoman of the committee, said in a statement. “These companies use aggressive marketing tactics to target young people — especially young men — and some even evoke symbols of white supremacy.”She added, “We found that none of these companies bothers to keep track of the death and destruction caused by their products.”
The House is expected to vote on Friday on an assault weapons ban for the first time since 1994, a measure that will have no chance of passage in the evenly divided Senate.
On Wednesday, the committee will hear testimony from Christopher Killoy, the president and chief executive of Sturm, Ruger & Company, and Marty Daniel, the chief executive of Daniel Defense.
The manufacturers that were investigated — Bushmaster, Daniel Defense, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson, and Sturm, Ruger & Company — all marketed their weapons to young men as a way to “prove their manliness,” according to the report, and sold “guns to mass shooters on credit” while failing to take basic steps to monitor deaths associated with their products.
The report showed that, as the country has struggled to cope with an epidemic of gun violence that has plagued schools, churches, supermarkets, concerts and shopping malls, firearms manufacturers have been enjoying ballooning proceeds from the sale of the weapons used to carry out mass shootings.Daniel Defense’s revenue from AR-15-style rifles tripled from 2019 to 2021, to over $120 million from $40 million, the report said. Daniel Defense manufactured the AR-15-style rifle that was used by the 18-year-old gunman in Uvalde.
Ruger, the country’s largest maker of rifles, reported that its gross earnings from AR-15-style rifles also nearly tripled from 2019 to 2021, increasing to over $103 million from $39 million. The company’s AR-15-style rifle and pistols were used by mass shooters in Sutherland Springs, Texas, in 2017 and Boulder, Colo., in 2021.
Smith & Wesson’s revenue from all long guns, which include AR-15-style rifles, more than doubled between 2019 and 2021, to $253 million from $108 million. The company sold the weapon used in the July 4 massacre in Highland Park, Ill., as well as the Parkland school shooting in Florida in 2018.
Sig Sauer, the company that sold the AR-15-style rifle used in a mass shooting in 2016 at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla., and three of the weapons used by the gunman in Las Vegas in 2017, refused to disclose its revenue.
And Bushmaster, which made the weapon used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn., in 2012, said it had no financial data from previous years because it was recently purchased by a new company.
As their business has expanded, the gun manufacturers have also made covert references to white supremacist groups like the Boogaloo Bois, according to the report.
The Boogaloo movement is a group of anti-government extremists who believe a race war, or a second Civil War, is on the horizon. Members of the group often dress in Hawaiian-style floral print shirts and military fatigues. The Palmetto State Armory, a firearms company, markets a “Big Igloo Aloha” AK-47-style assault rifle adorned with such a floral print, which the report said was a clear reference to the Boogaloo Movement.
Daniel Defense has also posted photos of an assault rifle with a floral pattern similar to the one worn by its members.
One Daniel Defense inventory catalogue from 2017 also featured an image of a shooter with a tattoo of a Valknot, a Norse symbol closely associated with transnational white supremacists. The Valknot has been identified as a hate symbol by the Anti-Defamation League.
The gun manufacturers have also made appeals that played on male insecurities, claiming that owning weapons would put users “at the top of the testosterone food chain.”
One Bushmaster ad used the slogan “consider your man card reissued” in an advertisement for an AR-15.
The committee’s investigation also found that the five gun manufacturers under review do not have any systems in place to monitor and analyze deaths and injuries associated with their products.
The companies did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Republicans on the panel have invited Antonia Okafor Cover, the national director of women’s outreach for Gun Owners of America, a gun rights group, to testify.

What Does Nancy Pelosi Think She’s Doing in Taiwan? A risky trip seems more about dramatic gestures than actual help
What Does Nancy Pelosi Think She’s Doing in Taiwan? A risky trip seems more about dramatic gestures than actual help. 南希佩洛西認為她在台灣做什麼? 一次冒險的旅行似乎更多的是戲劇性的姿態,而不是實際的幫助.
By Mike Chinoy, a Taipei-based nonresident senior fellow at the University of Southern California’s U.S.-China Institute.
Instead, the planned August trip appears to be very much symbolism over substance, a photo-op to enable Pelosi to poke Beijing in the eye as she has done in the past. Unlike her appearance in Tiananmen Square in 1991, however, which left a few reporters roughed up and detained, if the situation escalates now, it will be the people of Taiwan—and potentially any American service members flying her there—who will be left to face the consequences.
