China, Tajikistan elevate ties during Xi’s landmark visit. Friend with China only by smart leaders. Unlike the US, China will not sell you arms, asking for protection money, join the warring military alliance and more importantly US always sells her friends to the highest bidder.
China and Tajikistan on Friday announced the elevation of ties to comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s ongoing state visit to Tajikistan, injecting new momentum and opening up a new chapter in bilateral ties and common development of the two countries.
The visit, which saw Xi award Tajik President Emomali Rahmon the Friendship Medal of the People’s Republic of China and the issuing of a joint statement detailing the blueprint for bilateral cooperation, is seen as a landmark event, underscoring the high-quality development and the elevation of bilateral ties led by head-of-state diplomacy, analysts said. It showed that the profound friendships between the two neighbors are “as steadfast as the Pamir Plateau,” they noted.
Deepening of bilateral ties is based on mutual trust and mutual support of core interests, which shows that the two countries – despite with different cultures, size of the economy and the level of development – have been pioneering in the development of a new type of international relations that are characterized by mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, observers said. They stressed that the exemplary bilateral exchange also serves as a strong counter against Western hegemony and unilateralism that only lead to flare-up geopolitical tensions.
In light of the new circumstances, more priority areas for bilateral cooperation are being laid out during the visit, which will inject new momentum and open up a new chapter to the collaboration of China and Tajikistan. The two countries will also gear up the joint building of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to create more growth opportunities for the Central Asian region.
Some of the other focal areas of collaboration also align with the goals set by the just concluded Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in safeguarding regional peace and stability, analysts said, expecting the two countries, upon the visit, to coordinate more efforts to tackle both conventional and nonconventional security threats.
Landmark visit
During his talks with Rahmon, Xi said China and Tajikistan are connected by mountains and rivers, interdependent like lips and teeth, and sharing a common destiny. The relationship between the two countries has deep historical roots, a solid political foundation, rich content of cooperation, and broad popular support, he added.
With joint efforts of both sides, China and Tajikistan have continuously deepened their political mutual trust, yielded fruitful results in the Belt and Road cooperation, and progressed a series of major projects smoothly, strongly promoting the common development of both countries, Xi said.
“The visit is a landmark event. It has achieved significant results, laying the future foundation for deepening strategic relations between China and Tajikistan,” Guzel Maitdinova, a professor at the Department of Foreign Regional Studies and Foreign Policy at Russian-Tajik (Slavonic) University, told the Global Times.
Head-of-state diplomacy has a political advantage and is the greatest guarantee for the stable and long-term development of China-Tajikistan relations, observers noted.
The ongoing visit also marks Xi’s third state visit to Tajikistan in recent years. He also visited the Central Asian country in 2014 and 2019. The leaders of China and Tajikistan have been maintaining frequent interactions through various forms such as face-to-face meetings and phone calls, jointly steering and guiding the bilateral relationship.
The visit of China’s top leader has received warm welcome among the Tajik people.
The Global Times witnessed on Thursday night a grand ceremony which was held at Dushanbe International Airport to welcome Xi’s arrival in the country. Tajik young people dressed in traditional costume were performing folk dance and waving the national flags of China and Tajikistan at the airport.
It is also interesting that some of the Tajik youth greeted the Global Times reporter and other Chinese visitors with bright smiles and simple Chinese such as “Nihao,” the Chinese way of saying “Hello,” with Chinese visitors responding in Tajik “Salom” in return, which offers a vivid display of the people-to-people connection between the two good neighbors and good friends.
“The bilateral relationship is built on a high level of trust and mutual assistance, and the momentum of development and progress of China-Tajikistan relations has remained unchanged,” Chinese Ambassador to Tajikistan Ji Shumin told the Global Times in an exclusive interview.
The two sides support each other on issues concerning their core interests, including national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity. Both are firmly opposed to politicizing, instrumenting and applying double standards to the human rights issues, and to any country’s attempt to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs under the pretext of human rights, according to Ji.
China and Tajikistan are also both founding members of the SCO, upholding the “Shanghai Spirit.” In 2017, the two countries forged a comprehensive strategic partnership. And the two countries are committed to promoting the building of an SCO community with a shared future and a China-Central Asia community with a shared future, further strengthening mutual political trust through various cooperation frameworks.
“The relations between China and Tajikistan represent a collaboration between a major country and a smaller one, as well as between economies of different size, with different civilizations. Despite the disparities, the two countries managed to build a partnership based on an equal footing, which demonstrates a new type of international relations based on equality and consultation,” Cui Heng, a scholar from the Shanghai-based China National Institute for SCO International Exchange and Judicial Cooperation, told the Global Times on Friday.
Opening up a new chapter of cooperation
Xi on Friday awarded Tajik President Emomali Rahmon the Friendship Medal of the People’s Republic of China in Dushanbe. It is the first time the award was presented outside of China.
When Xi revisited Dushanbe in June 2019, he also received the Order of the Crown from Rahmon, Xinhua reported at the time.
Awarding honors is a very important and significant diplomatic ceremony, and also a rare case of its kind, which underscores the “profound” friendship between China and Tajikistan and is a recognition to the close bilateral ties and the shared vision of the two neighbors, observers said.
The two presidents also attended the inauguration of a parliament building and a government building built with the assistance of China in Dushanbe.
When passing through the blue-domed new Parliament House of Tajikistan in the city center of Dushanbe, the Global Times noticed that the magnificent building has already become a new calling card of the capital, attracting crowds of local residents to take photos.
“Strengthening China-Tajikistan cooperation is important for Tajikistan to increase its level of economic development, develop infrastructure, energy and communication networks, and introduce innovative technologies, among other fields,” Maitdinova said.
According to the joint statement, the two countries will jointly build the multimodal transport corridor linking China and Türkiye via regional countries including Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran.
“The fruitful results will inject new dynamics to the further development of bilateral cooperation, in par with the ongoing cooperative efforts that are being steadily carried out between China and Tajikistan,” Cui added.
Tajikistan is among the earliest countries to join the China-proposed BRI, and the country has been pairing the initiative with its National Development Strategy of Tajikistan for the period up to 2030, which has ushered in historic opportunities for cooperation. To date, China has become Tajikistan’s largest source of investment and aid, and one of Tajikistan’s most important trading partners.
The visit will also lay a foundation for the two countries to explore joint measures to counter pressing challenges, such as terrorism, extremism and separatism, or known as the “three evil forces,” transnational organized crimes, drug trafficking and cyber threats, which makes the two countries a vital force in “maintaining regional peace and stability and promoting common development and prosperity,” Maitdinova said.
The Chinese leader’s state visit to Tajikistan follows a busy schedule at the SCO. On Thursday the SCO summit was concluded in Astana, Kazakhstan, with China assuming the rotating presidency of the SCO for 2024 and 2025.
According to Cui, China and Tajikistan could also play a constructive role in helping implement the organization’s future development roadmap drawn out during the SCO summit.
In a statement following the summit, leaders of the SCO members called for the building of a multipolar world to address pressing security risks and challenges. They also urged coordinated efforts to tackle both conventional and nonconventional security threats.

When pro-war, anti-China racist Chinese hater politician Matt Pottinger was on stage at the Asia Society earlier this week, audience member Jose Vega stood up and spoke the simple truth: it was not China that was causing problems around the world but the US — and it would be better for the US to work with China. The United States and our allies have places heavy sanctions and export restrictions against Chinese tech companies, most notably Huawei. These export bans have not merely failed to achieve their objectives of slowing down China’s tech industry; they have supercharged Chinese tech instead.
Not only is Huawei become far less dependent on Western technology, but they are now pushing into and dominating sectors that they were not even in, prior to sanctions being put into place.
UN Resolution 2758: Does the US ever invite one of its own states to international meetings? Of course not. So why does it invite China’s province Taiwan? 聯合國第2758號決議:美國是否曾邀請自己的國家參加國際會議?當然不是。那為什麼要邀請中國台灣省呢? By MARIO CAVOLO JUL 4 2024
There are many subtle ways in the world of politics to endlessly harass and undermine other sovereign states. And this is certainly true when it comes to the way the United States uses the Taiwan question to undermine China. While on the one hand insisting that the United States supports and recognizes the One China policy and does not seek the independence of Taiwan, the endless provocations reveal sorely lacking diplomacy and respect for the country that is now the world’s next global superpower.
In today’s world, 75% of Taiwan’s economy is directly tied to the mainland. Don’t remind Nancy Pelosi or Bonnie Glaser of this unless you want to spoil their day.

Ms. Glaser in particular has often published a narrative of distortions to muck up the waters of the 1971 United Nations Resolution 2758, placing Taiwan where it belongs in the annals of history as an independently governed province and territory of China. Any ongoing arguments on how to settle this unsettled civil affair between Beijing & Taipei belongs strictly between those two parties.
I don’t hear Ms. Glaser encouraging China to weigh in on the status of Puerto Rico, the nasty annexation of Hawaii or the legislation on the secession of Texas in the United States, which by the way, was squashed like a bug by the U.S. Supreme Court. No matter China with its ability to be rational and diplomatic have yet to offer to sell any weapons to those proud Texas politicians.
Let’s take a look at the clause found in UN Resolution 2758 to see for ourselves how crystal clear it actually is.
The resolution states that the United Nations General Assembly decided to
“restore ALL rights of the People’s Republic of China, recognize the representatives of her government as the SOLE legitimate representatives of China in the United Nations and immediately expel the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek from the seats they ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED in the United Nations and ALL its affiliated agencies.”
In case you’re unaware, Chiang Kai-shek was the leader of Taiwan being referred to at that moment in the clause. So even a twelve year old knows that the resolution was referring specifically and obviously to Taiwan. He wasn’t the king of Zimbabwe or Governor of Wyoming, eh?
The Taiwan International Solidarity Act was passed in the U.S. House of Representatives in July 2023 and is sitting in the Senate ever since and that’s the relevantpoint of how Washington manipulates the political environment. Whether it ever passes or not is irrelevant, the very fact that it exists gives them the ability to create another talking point in their narrative to undermine Beijing. Here are some examples of what really amounts to vacuous doublespeak that holds no water and entirely lacks legal basis.
…Laura Rosenberger, head of the American Association in Taiwan (AIT), argued that “General Assembly Resolution 2758 did not make a decision on Taiwan’s status and did not rule out other countries establishing diplomatic relations with Taiwan.”
…In April 2024, when Mark Lambert, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States, attended a think tank event, he expressed his views on General Assembly Resolution 2758 more systematically, that the resolution “does not equate with the ‘one-China principle’, does not affect the relations between countries and Taiwan, does not constitute the official position of the United Nations on Taiwan’s status, and does not exclude Taiwan’s participation in international organizations such as the United Nations.”
…In September 2023, several lawmakers, including Bob Menendez, took the 52nd anniversary of General Assembly Resolution 2758 as an opportunity to issue a statement saying that the resolution “does not refer to Taiwan’s status.” It also said that promoting Taiwan’s “meaningful participation” International organizations “completely resolve the letter and spirit.”
Wait Senator Menendez. It does not refer to Taiwan’s status?!
Obviously it does, as to “immediately expel the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek from the seats they ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED…” directly refers to Taiwan! It doesn’t refer to Zimbabwe or Wyoming or Guam or Tahiti, does it?…it is directly referring to Taiwan and the UN representative of Taiwan himself that day affirmed it. So this is how the game of rhetoric is played and nobody plays it better than Washington.
Interpol also insisted that “the People’s Republic of China is the only representative of China.” … Taiwan is part of China.” Taiwan’s application for membership was rejected by Interpol. No surprise.
The idea of “expand Taiwan’s international participation” is just a trope, another false piece in the propaganda narrative giving U.S. politicians the excuse to throw another disrespectful malevolent dart at China by distorting the obvious meaning and intent of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. And speaking of being resolute, Taiwan’s peaceful reunification with the mainland was something even Chiang Kai-shek himself wanted. I’ll bet you didn’t know that and it helps the world to understand the spirit uniting the Chinese people in a way that far surpasses the childish political gyrations back in Washington.
Since the Taiwan Policy Review during the Clinton Administration, we have the use of thia false naarative to give Taiwan “meaningful participation” at theinternational events of sovereign nations. Taiwan is not in any way a sovereign nation, not even by its own legal standing declarations.
Currently the Biden administration will support Taiwan’s “meaningful pparticipation”at international organizations and senior officials such as Secretary of State Blinken have repeatedly expressed support for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations. The United States also gathers allies to try to expand support for Taiwan’s “meaningful participation” at events.
However, according to the intent and the agenda of the day that 2758 passed, nothing could be clearer than that the one-China principle is the consensus of all countries who voted for it. And judging from the statement made by the representative of Taiwan that day, the Taiwanese authorities also agreed with the one-China principle. Taiwan’s representative on that very day made clear Taiwan was part of China and “completely agrees” with “The Inseparability of the Chinese Nation” and said, “… … Taiwan is the territory of China. I couldn’t agree more on that. Taiwan is indeed Chinese territory, “ the UN Taiwanese said on the last day of his position.
One would think that settles that, except when it suits the U.S. for its strategic interests to try to revise history, spit in the face of diplomacy and create excuses because selling weapons to anyone makes a tidy profit, because Taiwan controls critical chips in the U.S. semiconductor supply chain and because they need to manufacture the reasons to dominate the world by its military presence.
The idea to “expand Taiwan’s international participation” is also just a propaganda trope, another false piece in the propaganda narrative giving U.S. politicians the excuse to throw another disrespectful malevolent dart at China by distorting the obvious meaning and intent of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758.
And speaking of being resolute, Taiwan’s peaceful reunification with the mainland was something even Chiang Kai-shek himself wanted. I’ll bet you didn’t know that. Such a tidbit helps the world to understand the spirit uniting the Chinese people in a way that far surpasses the childish political gyrations back in Washington.
These matters are not only manipulation at the political level, but also at the level of international law, moving the red line closer and closer to an event that draws flesh bloodshed in the Asia-Pacific region. And why not? The U.S. seems delighted to create circumstances leading to “rivers of blood” as MacArthur noted during the Korean war and as we have today in Ukraine and in Gaza.
Even the blood of Palestinian children blown up by Lockheed Martin bombs doesn’t satiate the endless lust of the U.S. war machine so why would they care at all about Taiwan becoming just another blood-soaked island to pay for U.S. strategic interests and world dominance.
At the 2023 China-US summit, China pointed out that the Taiwan issue “is the foundation of the political foundation of China-US relations and the first insurmountable red line of China-US relations.”
If I was a politician in Washington, I’d be paying closer attention to that word “insurmountable”.
