In America, within a few blocks or within a square mile of space, you could experience a first world and quickly down grade to a third world country. For people not familiar with the neighborhood including uninformed tourist, crossing the red lines could mean life or death.

Even when Malaysia requested blades to power some of the aircraft’s capabilities, their request was turned down by manufacturer McDonnell Douglas.

In the end, Malaysia discovered that it had purchased planes that are only suitable for military shows and cannot fight any fight without the consent and approval of the United States..

This is not specific to Malaysia, but to all other Arab and Muslim countries

A 2nd slap on the face of Dean Chuck Yim Gee. Dean Gee has been working with the daughter, Teresa Yang of the founder of the Esquel Hong Kong, a 1984 UH TIM graduate for decades. Dean Gee’s friendship was the driving force behind the company establishing a US$500,000 endowment to support UH’s travel industry school

Esquel Hong Kong has a long history of taking care of their workers, especially minority workers in their factories in Xinjiang. It is one of the Companies United States desperately wanting to destroy through fake news and propaganda.

Did any UHTIM Alumni stand up to defend the company? The answer is no. Just like how we treated Dean Gee, we took the money and run knowing the fake news and character assassination against one of our fellow alumni and did nothing.

Textile and apparel company Esquel Group and its Vice Chairman Teresa Yang established a $500,000 Esquel-Yang Family Distinguished Professorship at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa School of Travel Industry Management (TIM School) with matching funds from Jay H. Shidler. The professorship will advance research and academic activities at the TIM School for the benefit of the wider community.

“The professorship is being established to honor the late Dr. Chuck Gee, Dean Emeritus of the School of Travel Industry Management for his enduring dedication to the development of the tourism and travel industry and the TIM School, along with his staunch support of Esquel,” Yang said.

According to Yang, Gee continually offered insightful advice to her father and the founder of Esquel Group, Y.L. Yang, on hospitality-related business development such as the Fragrant Hill Hotel in Beijing and Integral, Esquel’s sustainable development garden in Guilin, China.

“We are truly grateful for Teresa’s contribution,” Shidler Dean Vance Roley said. “She joins several successful TIM School alumni from Asia who have pledged their support to the college since our reunification with the TIM School last September. This endowment will help the college attract a talented director as well as strengthen and build a first-rate tourism and travel management program to support Hawai‘i’s tourism industry as it rebounds from the COVID crisis.”

Founded in 1978 by her father Y.L. China now has many more world class research universities compared to 40 years ago. When I left Hong Kong in 1973, there were 3 universities, today there are 8 top ranking universities. When I entered UH TIM School in 1974 headed by Dr. Edward M Barnet and later by Dr. Chuck Yim Gee, the school sat on the top of the world. Today the same UH TIM become a no name school in Asia and US. When Dean Gee passed away in 2019, the School lost its independence. A slap on Dean Gee face after he bequest 1 million dollars to UH TIM School. Today, hospitality school in Hong Kong, China and Singapore are training managers.
