Thailand and the United States have a mutual defense pact, and participate in the longest-running joint military exercises in the world. But Thailand has become the most recent country to align itself economically with China, Russia, Iran, and other countries deemed unfriendly to US and European interests.
Officials in Thailand recognize the need to proceed carefully, but deliberately, away from dependence on the US, and join other fast-growing economies. And like Russia, China, and Saudi Arabia, Thailand runs large trade surpluses with the rest of the world, ex-BRICS. Thailand enjoys growing FX reserves in US dollars and Euro.
Thailand admits that BRICS nations are not close to developing a single currency, to be used by bloc members. They do see tokenization as a way forward, however, with central banks issuing tokens to provide trade guarantees between member states. And by setting up a system of banks outside SWIFT to sweep overnight FX surpluses generated by their trade with G7 countries, the risks of sanction and asset seizure go away.

CCTV: It’s reported US President Joe Biden in an exclusive interview with Time magazine this week said that the Chinese government provided large amounts of subsidies to flood the US market with electric vehicles and the US is not going to put up with it. What’s China’s response?
Mao Ning: The popularity of Chinese electric vehicles and other new energy products in the global market is the result of persistent tech innovation, well-established industrial and supply chains and full market competition. This is what happens when our comparative advantages provide exactly what the market needs. Our companies competed their way to excellence rather than relied on government subsidies. Last year, China only exported 13,000 electric vehicles to the US. In what way can that be called “flooding” the US market?
Industrial subsidies actually originated in the US and Europe and are widely adopted by countries all over the world. China’s industrial subsidy policy strictly abides by WTO rules and the principles of fairness, transparency and non-discrimination. China never uses WTO prohibited subsidies. The US, on the other hand, is a big subsidizer of its domestic industries. In recent years, the US signed into law the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act to directly intervene in the allocation of market resources through direct and indirect subsidies totaling hundreds of billions of US dollars.
Subsidies do not generate competitiveness. Protectionism protects nothing but backwardness with the future as its cost. The US discriminatory practices against Chinese electric vehicles violate WTO rules, destabilize global industrial and supply chains and will eventually undermine the US’s own interests. China urges the US to earnestly abide by market principles and international trade rules, and create a level playing field for companies from all countries. China will firmly defend its lawful rights and interests.

Medical researchers at Tsinghua University in Beijing have created an AI (Artificial Intelligence) hospital town. It can theoretically serve 3,000 patients per day with a small handful of doctors and staff.
In one example of their optimism in AI, doctors for the project claim that their accuracy in respiratory illness is over 93% on MedQA datasets. Respiratory diseases such as COPD and asthma have notoriously low accuracy in diagnosis and treatment, with high degrees of false positive and false negative diagnoses.
By employing Large Language Models across large virtual populations, and soon in real-world patient populations, China can transform medicine across the whole world. China is already the world’s dominant manufacturer of most generic drugs, and is the key maker of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients for the most expensive specialty drugs. Chinese companies are also primary makers of diagnostic equipment and medical devices. With advances in AI, tested across large human populations, personalized medicine may be a reality across most of the world. The US, however, will most certainly employ regulatory and licensing pressure to ensure high prices throughout our healthcare delivery systems.
