Wendy Sherman Backs Off on China and Heads Off Into Retirement Sunset… 溫迪·謝爾曼 (Wendy Sherman) 放棄對中國的看法,走向退休日落… by MARIO CAVOLO MAY 13 2023
If the US has any hope of resuming reasonably effective & engaging communications/diplomacy with China, China has said the U.S. needs to right its course, to back off, to drop its most aggressive stance toward China ever, on a number of well worn issues, mainly the ridiculous balloon overreaction, Taiwan and the never ending horseshit allegations of Uyghur genocide human rights atrocities. China’s hardline is getting a welcome response moving communications in the right direction as we can see from the increased # of meetings & outreach efforts happening while media like National Review continue the hate campaign, vehemently objecting and insisting that all these ridiculous propaganda allegations are real. Recent meetings & plans include the Wang Yi – Sullivan meeting, Amb Burns’s meeting with the Chinese foreign minister in Bejing and coming visits to China by the U.S. Commerce Secretary and Trade Representative.
In the couple of weeks before announcing her retirement from her current position as Deputy Secretary of State, #2 to Secretary of State Blinken, Sherman seemed to be making a serious effort to meet China’s demands, much to the chagrin of lots of folks, of course. Blinken had pretty much put Sherman in charge of the China matters recently and now she has just announced her retirement after over 30 years of service in the U.S. govt. Here’s a National Review review piece on May 12th clearly revealing its disdain, still calling the China balloon incident a “spy” balloon, that the Biden Admin might attempt to stop the insanity found throughout U.S. foreign policy on China these days.
“Citing four State Department sources and internal emails, Reuters reveals that Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman ordered this shift to a policy that favors “engagement” with China.”
Golly gee whiz Batman, engagement with the world’s next rising superpower thats kicking your ass and getting things done 10X better than you are?…what a dumb idea for sound diplomatic foreign policy.
Likewise Reuters here Why the US delayed China sanctions after shooting down a spy balloon continuing to use the word “spy” balloon when its clear it was not a spy balloon, and reflecting exactly why China is done tolerating this crap from U.S. media or its government if anyone wants to have actual genuine communication focused on the needs and interests of the parties involved and the real world.
We’re the good guys and China is evil. Mmm….that’s all for now, Mario
10 Stomach Symptoms You Should Never Ignore. They can signal cancer, COVID-19 or another serious disease 千萬不要忽視的 10 種胃部症狀。它們可以預示癌症、COVID-19 或其他嚴重疾病 By Michelle Crouch AARP
Everyone has stomach issues from time to time, and occasional digestive discomfort is not usually something to worry about. That said, doctors note that there are a few gastrointestinal symptoms you shouldn’t write off, because they could signal something serious.
“I’ve seen many cases where patients have waited way too long before seeking medical attention,” says Christine Lee, M.D., a gastroenterologist at the Cleveland Clinic.
Prolonged diarrhea 長期腹瀉
Diarrhea can be a symptom of a number of things — from a food allergy to a bacterial infection. It can also be a warning sign of COVID-19, appearing before more well-known symptoms such as cough or fever, says Brennan Spiegel, M.D., director of health services research for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Studies show that as many as half of COVID-19 patients have gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, and about 15 to 20 percent have only GI symptoms. Diarrhea is the most frequently reported GI symptom, followed by nausea/vomiting and abdominal pain. 研究表明,多達一半的 COVID-19 患者有胃腸道 (GI) 症狀,約 15% 至 20% 的患者僅有 GI 症狀。腹瀉是最常報告的胃腸道症狀,其次是噁心/嘔吐和腹痛。
If you have diarrhea, nausea/vomiting or abdominal pain that lasts more than a day, “don’t wait for a cough or shortness of breath to get tested for COVID,” Spiegel says. If your test is positive, you could be eligible for highly effective antiviral treatments that can help keep mild symptoms from progressing to more serious ones. New research shows these treatments may also lower a person’s risk for developing long COVID.
If it’s not COVID-19, prolonged diarrhea could signal another type of infection or an underlying condition like ulcerative colitis or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). 如果不是 COVID-19,長期腹瀉可能預示著另一種感染或潛在疾病,如潰瘍性結腸炎或腸易激綜合徵 (IBS)。
Blood in your stool
Whether bright red, maroon or black, seeing blood in the toilet can be frightening. Fortunately, it’s usually not a symptom of anything life-threatening, says Nicholas E. Anthony, M.D., a gastroenterologist at Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina. The most common causes are hemorrhoids and anal fissures (tears in the lining of the anus). But blood in your stool can also be one of the first symptoms of colon cancer, especially if accompanied by a change in your bowel habits or the shape of your stool. Since colon cancer is more common among those over age 50, it’s especially important for older adults to see a doctor without delay. Other possible causes of bleeding are colon polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, colitis and diverticulosis.
Severe cramps after eating
Severe cramping is a warning sign of a bowel obstruction — a serious condition that requires immediate medical treatment. It’s also a classic symptom of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a chronic digestive disorder that has been on the rise since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Experts aren’t sure how COVID-19 is linked to IBS, Spiegel says. It could be that the virus changes the gut microbiome or the lining of the intestinal system, triggering IBS. Or the boost in cases could be caused by pandemic-related stress and anxiety. Other IBS symptoms include abdominal pain (often related to bowel movements), bloating, gas, diarrhea or constipation.
Difficulty swallowing
If you feel like your food is getting stuck in your throat or it hurts as it’s going down, that can be a sign of something serious. “The big thing we worry about is esophageal cancer,” Anthony says. Esophageal cancer is more common in adults over 55 and three or four times more likely to occur in men than women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Other things that can cause discomfort when you swallow include an infection, an ulcer, a sore or scar tissue (which can develop if you have chronic acid reflux). In addition, a growing number of people are being diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE), a chronic allergic inflammatory disease that is a major cause of swallowing issues. To pinpoint the cause of your problem, your gastroenterologist will probably insert a tube with a camera attached to it down your throat in a procedure called an endoscopy.
Unexplained weight loss (especially if accompanied by abdominal pain)
Weight loss when you haven’t changed your diet or exercise habits is a common symptom of many serious illnesses, including cancer, Lee says. “Most people gain weight as they get older because their metabolism slows down,” she says. “If you’re losing weight without much effort, that’s a red flag.” See a doctor if you’ve dropped 5 percent or more of your body weight within six to 12 months. Although such weight loss is a symptom of some types of cancer, a 2014 study published in the journal American Family Physician found that in patients over 65, it is often due to other causes, like peptic ulcers, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease or an overactive thyroid.
Chronic or prolonged constipation (especially if you’re having pain)
Almost everyone experiences occasional bouts of constipation, and studies show that it’s especially prevalent among older adults. Constipation is typically defined as three or fewer bowel movements per week. It may not seem like a big deal, but if your constipation isn’t treated, over time the stools in your colon can become so large and solid that your body can’t remove them — and that can be painful or even deadly, Anthony warns. “If it goes longer than seven days, I want to see you,” he says. Constipation can be caused by a wide variety of issues, including certain medicines, a diet low in fiber, and medical conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, thyroid issues, diabetes or, in rare cases, colorectal cancer.
Sudden, intense abdominal pain
A sharp pain that doesn’t let up can indicate acute appendicitis (if it’s on your lower right side), diverticulitis or a serious infection. The context is important, Lee says, because muscle cramps and other issues can also manifest as sharp pain. “If you’re an athlete rock climbing and you get a sharp pain in your abdomen that only lasts a second, you probably just pulled a muscle,” she says. If it’s something serious, she explains, usually the pain keeps escalating and doesn’t let up.
Frequent, severe or worsening heartburn
Occasional heartburn — a burning, uncomfortable sensation in your chest — is common among older adults and can usually be treated with over-the-counter medications. But if your heartburn is frequent and worsening, or if it’s not responding to medication, you may have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a disorder in which the valve between your stomach and esophagus doesn’t close properly. Left untreated, GERD can lead to complications including erosion or narrowing of the esophagus, or a precancerous condition called Barrett’s esophagus. In rare cases, severe heartburn can also indicate a more serious condition such as esophageal cancer or a hiatal hernia.
Swollen abdomen
It’s not unusual to feel bloated after you eat a big meal. But there’s a difference between bloating and distension, an actual increase in measured abdominal size. “Do you literally see your belly puffing out? Is it bigger in circumference?” Spiegel asks. If the answer is yes — and the symptom persists after you’ve had plenty of time to digest a meal — it can be a sign that excess fluid or gas is forming in your small intestine as the result of an obstruction, inflammation, bacterial overgrowth or a gastrointestinal disease.
Feeling full after eating very little
If you feel stuffed even though you didn’t eat much, the most common cause is gastroparesis, a condition in which food stays in the stomach longer than it should. It can happen when a severe illness “stunts the electrical system of the stomach,” Anthony says, so gastroparesis can be a long-term side effect of COVID-19. Influenza, stomach surgery and diabetes can also trigger the condition. Although it can resolve on its own, your doctor can prescribe medications that will stimulate your stomach to contract and help speed digestion. If it’s not gastroparesis, other more serious causes of early satiety include an ulcer, an obstruction or a tumor.
If you don’t have one of the above symptoms, don’t let that keep you from seeing a gastroenterologist if you suspect that something’s wrong, Lee says. The earlier you detect a problem, the more options you have and the better your chances of success at managing it.
“The longer I do this, the more I realize that it doesn’t matter what the textbook says — patients know their bodies,” Lee says. “If something is not normal for you, then it is a red flag, even if it’s not on the list of top five. If something bothers you, you should get it checked out.”

US threatens to arrest ICC judges if they pursue Americans for Afghan war crimes, the crimes against humanity. Americans are above the law and untouchable 如果國際刑事法院法官因阿富汗戰爭罪和危害人類罪追究美國人,美國威脅要逮捕他們。美國人凌駕於法律之上,不可動搖
White House National Security Advisor John Bolton called the Hague-based rights body “unaccountable” and “outright dangerous” to the United States, Israel and other allies, and said any probe of US service members would be “an utterly unfounded, unjustifiable investigation.”
“If the court comes after us, Israel or other US allies, we will not sit quietly,” Bolton said.
He said the US was prepared to slap financial sanctions and criminal charges on officials of the court if they proceed against any Americans.
“We will ban its judges and prosecutors from entering the United States. We will sanction their funds in the US financial system, and we will prosecute them in the US criminal system,” he said.
“We will do the same for any company or state that assists an ICC investigation of Americans,” he said.
Bolton made the comments in a speech in Washington to the Federalist Society, a powerful association of legal conservatives.
Investigation into detainee abuse
Bolton pointed to an ICC prosecutor’s request in November 2017 to open an investigation into alleged war crimes committed by the US military and intelligence officials in Afghanistan, especially over the abuse of detainees.
Neither Afghanistan nor any other government party to the ICC’s Rome Statute has requested an investigation, Bolton said.
He said the ICC could formally open the investigation “any day now.”
He also cited a recent move by Palestinian leaders to have Israeli officials prosecuted at the ICC for human rights violations.
“The United States will use any means necessary to protect our citizens and those of our allies from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court,” Bolton said.
“We will not cooperate with the ICC. We will provide no assistance to the ICC. We certainly will not join the ICC. We will let the ICC die on its own.”
‘Threat’ to US sovereignty
The condemnation of the ICC added to the White House’s rejection of many supranational institutions and treaties the president does not believe benefit the United States.
Bolton also condemned the record of the court since it formally started up in 2002, and argued that most major nations had not joined.
He said it had attained just eight convictions despite spending more than $1.5 billion, and said that had not stemmed atrocities around the world.
“In fact, despite ongoing ICC investigations, atrocities continue to occur in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Libya, Syria, and many other nations.” he added.
But Bolton said the main objection of the administration of President Donald Trump is to the idea that the ICC could have higher authority than the US Constitution and US sovereignty.
“In secular terms we don’t recognize any higher authority than the US constitution,” he said.
“This president will not allow American citizens to be prosecuted by foreign bureaucrats, and he will not allow other nations to dictate our means of self defense.”
The robbing, stealing, killing, ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity has been practiced by Western nations last 400 years, by American since 1776 and especially last 75 years practically monthly 搶劫、偷盜、殺戮、種族清洗、反人類罪,西方國家做了400年,美國自1776年以來,尤其是最近75年更是變本加厲
For the past 400 years or so, Western nations have dominated the world. European empires, as well as the United States, subjugated nations and built colonial states across the globe. This was done primarily for economic reasons, allowing these countries to enrich themselves at the expense of colonies and creating vast commercial empires which were enforced by military power. Such imperialists framed themselves as benevolent guardians who represented a higher form of civilization and values which they were “bringing” to the colonized. Thus, as they spread their empires throughout Africa, Latin America, the Indian subcontinent, Asia, and elsewhere. Westerners also sought to expand their ideology and value systems.
Arguably, the world has been in a cultural conflict for a while now, and it didn’t start with US-China competition. The rise and surge of political Islam, after all, pursuing hard-line interpretations of Sharia law, and even going as far as terrorism and insurgency, was a reaction to Westernization in the Middle East, an attempt to try and enforce an Islamic identity against it. To some extent, the War on Terror was a ‘clash of civilizations’ as much as it was a clash of ideologies and cultural identities which saw each other as mutually existential threats.
This is where the new “clash of civilizations” comes in, precisely because China has gained the ability to challenge the West’s vision for the world on a scale never seen before, and even surpassing that of the former Soviet Union. Contemporary China frames itself as a model within a multipolar order, seeking to reject the Western-centric version which has dominated the world for centuries and allowed these countries to exploit and change others. In doing so, China refuses “Westernization” and positions itself as its own “civilizational pole.”
Of course, it is not alone, and Beijing finds support from many nations that have similarly been “net losers” and subject to colonialism, and who all seek a fairer international system. For example, this has great appeal to countries in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, South Asia and, of course, Russia. Many of these countries see the onslaught of Western values not only as historical threats to their national sovereignty, but also to their own cultural identity.
Why, for example, is a country such as the United Arab Emirates, a traditional Western partner, now so pro-China? As a highly conservative Arab state, it views the pursuit of Western liberalism as a threat to its own Islamic values, and sees support in a Chinese state which, even espousing a different ideology, encourages plurality and respect for different civilizations as opposed to Western evangelism.
Apart from very subservient countries such as Japan, the rest of the world has never wanted to be dominated by the West. That doesn’t mean they are hostile to the West, but it does represent a longing to be treated as equal and to exist on their own terms as opposed to being at the bottom of an economic and value hierarchy which only benefits a small group of countries. As such, the new Cold War could very much be built on a “clash of civilizations,” because it is Western liberalism up against those who elect not to live by its premises.
Timur Fomenko, a political analyst
The ‘clash of civilizations’ is already underway as the world resists Westernization. China’s judgment is sound in attempting to rally non-Western nations against imposed values
